Retirement Living Standards awards open for nominations

08 June 2023

The Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association (PLSA) has now opened the nominations process for the third annual awards recognising excellence in adopting the Retirement Living Standards as part of member communications.

Launched in October 2019, the Retirement Living Standards are designed to help savers picture the lifestyle they want in retirement and understand the costs. Based on independent research with the UK public by Loughborough University, the standards cover a range of goods and services that are relevant for the majority of people across three different levels – minimum, moderate and comfortable.

With the Retirement Living Standards accessible to more than 35 million savers through more than 124 different organisations, the PLSA has devised the awards to recognise adopters who have incorporated the standards into their communications in novel and effective ways.

The awards are open to applicants from pension schemes, providers, consultants, public bodies and other stakeholders who have adopted the standards.

Entries will be judged against criteria such as saver engagement and innovation.

Applicants should complete the short form via the Retirement Living Standards section of the PLSA website and provide any supporting material to showcase to the judges that they have an award-winning approach.

Nigel Peaple, Director of Policy and Advocacy, PLSA said: “We are now in the third year of the Retirement Living Standards Awards and we have seen many schemes truly bringing the standards to life through their ingenuity. I expect this innovative and creativity to continue to be highlighted in this year's submissions.

“Our Retirement Living Standard Awards celebrate the work across the industry to bring the Standards into millions of savers’ homes; helping to create a common language to allow savers to engage with pension planning. It is a practical and powerful tool which can empower savers to engage more with their pension and plan for their future.

“I’d like to thank the Friends of the Retirement Living Standards for their on-going support for the initiative.”

Entries are open until 31 August 2023, with the winners announced in the Autumn.

Supporting the Standards are a number of organisations who have signed as Friends of the Retirement Living Standards. They include: Allspring, HUB Group, JUST, Kingfisher, Legal & General Investment Management, Mercer, Railpen, SAUL, Standard Life, TPT Retirement Solutions, West Midlands Pension Funds and Lifesight.

As Friends of the Retirement Living Standards these organisations help fund the necessary further research to ensure the standards remain up to date and relevant. For more information about the Friends of the Retirement Living Standards click here.
