2015 General Election results – NAPF comments

The National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) today (Friday) commented on the General Election results.

Joanne Segars, Chief Executive, NAPF, said:

“Pensions were a hot topic during the General Election campaign and we expect this interest to continue in the coming Parliament. It’s less than two months since the pensions system underwent the biggest reforms in decades and the hard work of our industry did much to ensure these changes were implemented successfully.

“Steve Webb was one of the longest serving pensions ministers and the NAPF and its members have appreciated his expertise and his willingness to engage with the industry to make reform both practical for the industry and beneficial for savers. We wish him well.

“Gregg McClymont’s insight and expertise as Shadow Pensions Minister, has been highly valuable in shaping the fierce debate on pensions over the last five years. We have very much appreciated the genuine interest and commitment he has shown to our sector and would like to wish him well.

“It’s less than two months since the pensions landscape underwent massive change and there is still much to do to ensure savers’ interests are safeguarded. Whoever becomes the next Pensions Minister will face some tough challenges and we look forward to working with them. We reiterate our belief that an independent commission is the best way to address the challenges ahead – giving the new Minister the benefit of independent expertise and analysis as she or he seeks to make policies that last for the long term.”
