Opportunity to support our Policy Board

We’re looking for PLSA members to help us take forward the PLSA’s policy work.

We recently set up a new Policy Board, made up of PLSA members, which met this week to start shaping a four-year agenda around the themes of well-run pension schemes, adequate contributions, effective engagement and addressing issues related to consolidation and scale.

The Policy Board will be supported by new Policy Committees and member Reference Groups. They’ll represent our members in four sectors: DB, DC, master trusts and local authorities. We’re giving all PLSA members the opportunity to join these new bodies.

Policy Committees will advise the Policy Board on certain matters, make policy decisions on issues delegated by the Policy Board and suggest topics for PLSA work. There will be between 8 and 10 members on each committee and it will be chaired by a member of the Policy Board. They will meet three times a year. (Anyone who previously applied to be on the Policy Board will automatically be considered for a place on the Policy Committees.)

If you want to join a committee, please email a CV and covering letter setting out which committee you want to join and what expertise and experience you can bring to [email protected] by 5pm Monday 15 January. The basis for selection will be PLSA members who are representative of their sector, expert in the subject area of the committee, and have time free to dedicate to the work of the group.

Reference Groups will be “virtual groups” that support the PLSA executive by providing views and input on specific issues. There will be up to 50 members of each group (DB, DC, Master Trusts and local authority pensions) and they will be consulted by survey and email. (We do not envisage that these groups will meet in person.) The Reference Groups will advise PLSA on a number of issues related to policy but also to PLSA’s overall services to its membership.

If you want to join a Reference Group, please send a short email setting out which group you’d want to join and why to [email protected] by 5pm on Monday 15 January. The basis for selection will be any PLSA member who is active in the subject area of the Reference Group to which they have applied and are willing to respond to surveys and email questions on a regular basis.

We are keen to hear from members who can bring to our work their first-hand experience of running or advising pension schemes.
