Helping members run their schemes, October 2024 update

It’s been good to see the PLSA office busy recently – and not just with my colleagues. Last week, we hosted a roundtable discussion on DB issues with TPR’s Chief Executive, Nausicaa Delfas, and leaders from a range of DB funds.
This week, we have another roundtable – this time specifically on the LGPS and featuring two Ministers – Local Government Minister Jim McMahon MP and Minister for Pensions Emma Reynolds MP. Members of our Policy Board and Local Authority Committee will be participating and it should be an excellent opportunity to get into the ‘nitty-gritty’ of how LGPS funds operate and invest. With the Pensions Review underway (we have just submitted our response) and the Budget just three weeks away, this is a perfect time to engage with Ministers.
These discussions build on the events hosted with the Fabians and Labour Together at the Labour Party Conference, where Emma Reynolds MP and Alastair Strathern MP both spoke on PLSA platforms alongside our Chief Policy Counsel, Nigel Peaple.
We had Policy team members at the Conservative and Liberal Democrat events as well; it’s important to maintain good contact with all sides, of course. It’s been a busy few weeks, but it's all essential to ensure our members’ views are heard where they matter.
If you want to put your own question to Emma Reynolds, then you have an ideal opportunity when she speaks at our Annual Conference in Liverpool in a week's time. Delegate numbers for the event are very strong, and I am looking forward to seeing many of our members there. Plenty to discuss!
