Hutton to bring pensions expertise to NAPF Council

05 October 2012

Lord Hutton, a former Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, is one of four high-profile joiners to the policymaking councils at the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF), the UK’s leading pensions trade body.

Lord Hutton, who was also the author of a report on public sector pension reform, was elected by NAPF members to a vacant place on the Retirement Policy Council (RPC), which is one of two bodies through which the NAPF develops policy. Recent topics covered by the RPC include state pension reforms, GMP Equalisation and EU Solvency II-type rules.

The other high-profile pensions experts elected to the NAPF’s councils are:

  • Richard Butcher, Managing Director at Pitmans Trustees (Retirement Policy Council);
  • Kerrin Rosenberg, CEO at Cardano Risk Management (Investment Council);
  • John Walbaum, Partner at Hymans Robertson (Investment Council).

Joanne Segars, NAPF’s Chief Executive, said:

“We are delighted that our councils will benefit from the expertise and experience of these well-known names from the pensions world. They will add a lot to the ongoing debate on how to make pensions fit for the 21st century.

“Lord Hutton’s experience speaks for itself and he brings a wealth of expertise to the NAPF. We look forward to working with him and his fellow council members.”

Lord Hutton, Chairman of MyCSP, said:

“I am delighted to have been elected as a new member of the Retirement Policy Council and look forward to contributing to the NAPF's vital role in securing fair and sustainable pensions.”

Each council is currently made up of 19 members who each have a four-year term of service. They meet five times a year to debate key issues. Both councils develop and agree policies on behalf of the NAPF’s 1,300 member pension schemes, which hold around £900bn of assets.

Notes to editors:

1. The NAPF is the leading voice of workplace pensions in the UK. We speak for 1,300 pension schemes with some 16 million members and assets of around £900 billion. NAPF members also include over 400 businesses providing essential services to the pensions sector.
